- The first step is to organise your ‘accommodation’ for the night. If you have a pop-up tent and the space indoors to put it up, it’s all sorted!
- If you don’t have a suitable tent, you could make an indoor cubby.
- Fill the inside with sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, and anything else you might need to be comfortable. If you have enough space, you can pull the mattresses off your beds for a 5-star camping experience!
- Hang fairy lights around the tent/cubby so you can have your very own twinkling ‘stars’!
- Stick to using torches and avoiding turning on any lights to help it feel more like you're actually camping.
- Make lanterns by putting battery operated tea light candles in glass jars. This will be safer than using real candles.
- If you have indoor plants, place them around your tent to make it a bit more outdoorsy.
- For dinner – you could try our brilliant burgers with onion jam or make your own pizzas (you may as well take advantage of the kitchen facilities at your ‘camp site’!)
- One thing to remember is that hot chocolate with marshmallows is compulsory!
- Another camping must is smore’s. Skewer marshmallows, toast over the flame of the stovetop (always supervise children), and smush one between two plain biscuits with some chocolate. You could also use chocolate digestive biscuits and then the chocolate is already built-in!
- Enjoy a movie on the laptop with popcorn (or make your own ice cream in a bag (no freezer required!).
- You could also play board games, read stories, or tell ghost stories (good for older kids, but try not to scare the younger ones!).
- If you do fancy camping outside, whatever the weather, take look at our camp out in the backyard article for some great ideas.
